By Mike Raita, Executive Director
As I reflect on the first-ever International Motorsports Hall of Fame Heritage Preservation Event, I was struck by several things.
The first, and most obvious, was the quality of cars that we were able to attract.
Sixty-seven cars were on display inside our dome concourse Friday through Sunday – everything from exotics to muscle cars to customs. On Saturday, under clear and sunny skies, we had approximately 100 cars for our Show and Shine. It was a car-lover’s dream.
The second, I was humbled by the absolute dedication and passion of the volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this event successful.
I’ve heard it said that volunteers don’t get paid because they are worthless, but rather because they are priceless. There has never been a truer statement.
And, saving the best for last – the reaction to the participation of the Alabama Gang was special.
Bobby and Donnie Allison and Red Farmer, three legendary racers, all members of the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, spent three days with the participants, signing
autographs, taking pictures and telling stories. The purpose of the event was to raise money to preserve Alabama’s outstanding racing heritage and the Alabama Gang has already said they were all-in for next year.
From the sponsors to the participants to the spectators, thank you to everyone who supported our event and congratulations to all the winners.
